Tips for preventing coronavirus

A team from various medical organizations developed a series of recommendations to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The general population should take the following care.

1) Hand hygiene by washing with soap and water or alcohol gel frequently, particularly after coughing or sneezing. The use of alcohol gels can replace hand washing if they are visibly clean.

2) Avoid touching your face and the mucous membranes of your eyes, nose or mouth.

3) Practice good respiratory hygiene, i.e. cover your mouth and nostrils with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.

4) Only persons with respiratory symptoms or assisting persons who are symptomatic or have a confirmed diagnosis of the disease should wear masks.

5) Maintain a distance of one to two meters from symptomatic people, do not shake hands, kiss or hug; in the same way, avoid going to places where there may be crowds of people.

6) Do not share utensils for personal use for drinks and food, glasses, cutlery, etc.

7) Keep the rooms ventilated and with good hygiene.

8) Assess the risks involved in unnecessary travel to countries or cities where sustained transmission is occurring (update on official pages).

9) Voluntary social distancing with isolation and quarantine of symptomatic people.

10) If symptoms begin to appear and are mild, it is suggested that medical consultation be carried out at home, using alternatives such as video consultation or medical consultation by telephone for guidance, avoiding going to health care centers; consider that in a situation of possible over-demand for consultations, there may be a delay in the medical evaluation of these cases.
